Intermission

Well, I’m off to Colorado for a second round of LASIK (my right eye needs just a little more encouragement). While I’m gone, Will is going farther north, single-handing Megatron for the first time since we moved aboard in March of 2010. It should be exciting, and I will miss being out on the open sea! After I recover and get my bionic eyes back aboard, I’ll continue with another post or five. In the meantime, here is another picture of our cat.

Port Washington, how I love thee…

I’m about to leave one of my favorite ports in the whole wide world and it makes me sad. We had no idea we would love Port Washington as much as we did. In fact, I almost talked Will out of going there at all. As we approached, I saw a pretty anchorage and tried [...]

Sailing past Manhattan

Well, that was one of the coolest things I’ve done in a long time. We sailed through New York harbor this morning, through Hell’s Gate, and up the East River. We saw everything from the Statue of Liberty to the Upper East Side to La Guardia airport. I am sure I won’t be able to [...]

A brief visit to Atlantic Highlands

Well, here we are in Atlantic Highlands. It was a quick, pretty painless move. You see, the morning after we staggered into Sandy Hook and collapsed, exhausted, in one of the rolliest (is that a word?) harbors I’ve ever encountered, we decided that bouncing all over the place simply would not do. Will found a [...]

Up the New Jersey coast

Today  was one of the longest days we’ve ever spent underway. This morning, we left Atlantic City and ended up in Sandy Hook. Just so you know, Sandy Hook is 80-ish miles from Atlantic City, and we average about 5 knots under power. That means that we stared down a 16 hour travel day. Lucky [...]

No really, it’s a small world after all

Remember how I mentioned that we were going to go to an isolated cove in Atlantic City? It turns out the cove isn’t so empty after all. Despite its apparent abandonment during all of our scouting trips, by the time we actually entered the channel, we saw a familiar-looking boat anchored right in the middle [...]

Let’s run away to Atlantic City

Anchoring next to the seawall in Cape May was not our favorite activity, so we hightailed it out of there as soon as we could. After a hop, skip, and a jump along the New Jersey coast, we arrived in Atlantic City. There were rumors of a beautiful anchorage with a grocery store (hold me!), [...]

Hello Cape May!

The day we finally left Delaware was calm and still and totally gorgeous. I snapped a photo of the light on the water right before we got down to the serious business of getting off the dock, which always means that I have to put down my gadgets and deal with the docklines. Navigating into [...]

Apparently, we’re never leaving Delaware

After Wilma and Dan left, Will and I spent most of Sunday afternoon doing various chores/projects that are easier to do on the dock than on a mooring. I did several loads of laundry while Will worked on completing our solar panel installation. We both cleaned the boat and prepped it for sailing, while Euonym [...]

Back in Delaware

We already seem to be breaking our rule about avoiding spending time tied to a dock this year, but for now, it’s totally worth it. We’re at the very far end of the very last dock, so we can almost see Delaware Bay from here. We came back to Delaware because Will’s brother Dan was [...]
